The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) published the proposed rules for the Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System for CY2016

On July 1, 2015 the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services released the Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (HOPPS) proposed rule.
Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (HOPPS):

• In 2015, CMS finalized packaging of all ancillary services assigned to APCs with a geometric mean of under 100 dollars. CMS proposes adding three new APCs in 2016 (Level 4 Minor Procedures, Level 3 Pathology, Level 4 Pathology) to this policy
• CMS proposes changes and a method for exceptions on a case by case basis to the “two midnight” rule.
• CMS made proposals that would restructure certain Ambulatory Payment Classifications, including radiology and nuclear medicine.

ASNC staff will actively analyze the proposed rules to understand what the potential impact on nuclear cardiology. ASNC leadership will be working over the comment period to formulate a cogent response to the rule.
