On Jan. 1, 2017, Raymond Russell, III, MD, PhD, FASNC, will be installed as ASNC's 2017 president. “There are a number of exciting opportunities and challenges facing nuclear cardiologists today, revolving around the transition to value-based care, changing reimbursement models and using AUC-based clinical decision support tools to ensure that patients receive the right tests and the lowest possible radiation dosages,” says Dr. Russell. “ASNC has identified several strategic areas to focus on over the next few years, including preparing our members and our referring colleagues to deliver optimal care as our healthcare system changes.” A member of ASNC since 2000 and a Fellow since 2006, Dr. Russell participated in ASNC's Leadership Development Program and has been a member of its Quality and Educational Committees, Board of Directors and Executive Council. Dr. Russell has served on the faculty of numerous ASNC Scientific Sessions and the Nuclear Cardiology Today program. In addition, he is active in the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology and its parent organization, the Alliance for Physician Certification and Advancement. He was the lead author of ASNC's information statement on “The Role and Clinical Effectiveness of Multimodality Imaging in the Management of Cardiac Complications of Cancer and Cancer Therapy.”
“It is an honor for me to participate in ASNC's mission,” continues Dr. Russell, “and I look forward to contributing to the important work ASNC does to help support excellence in imaging for our patients."
