ASNC extends deep thanks to the hundreds of members who completed the 2017 Member Survey. Your input is invaluable as the Board of Directors, committee chairs and staff continue working to support members' careers and advance the nuclear cardiology specialty.
“As always, the whole ASNC team is committed to providing the very best experience for every single current and future member,” says 2017 ASNC President Raymond R. Russell, MD, PhD. “We're poring over the quantitative feedback as well as every comment, to glean insights into what we're doing well and where we can improve.” A few take-aways from respondents:
95% would recommend ASNC membership to a colleague
95% rely on ASNC to keep current on nuclear cardiology best practices and procedures
86% consider ASNC guidelines and clinical documents to be a top benefit of membership
79% value ASNC's online education programs and discounted fees for members
67% consult ASNC documents frequently or very frequently
The survey informed (and in many cases, confirmed) issues that are keeping members up at night:
53% named prior authorization as a major challenge
48% are concerned about Medicare reimbursement
40% are anxious about appropriate use criteria
“There's a common theme in the challenges that members highlighted when they completed the survey,” says Dr. Russell. “New requirements for preauthorization, uncertainty around implementing appropriate use criteria in ordering tests, and alternative payment models all are straining members' ability to provide nuclear cardiac imaging and deliver important diagnostic and prognostic information from those tests. The membership survey further informs—and in many cases, confirms—ASNC's focus on delivering high-quality educational initiatives for the nuclear cardiology community and referring clinicians and on expanding our advocacy efforts.”
ASNC urges members to share information and tools from its educational programs with colleagues and to participate whenever ASNC issues a call to action for grassroots advocacy. “ASNC will continue to be our eyes, ears and voice on Capitol Hill, with CMS and in other federal and state advocacy arenas,” adds Dr. Russell.
