ASNC VP Randall Thompson, MD, FASNC honored with the Gordon Burgess Award
Randall Thompson, MD, FASNC was recently honored with the Gordon Burgess Award from the AMA for outstanding contribution as a CPT advisor.
He worked on several high profile CPT code change applications in 2018 including ASNC applications to update the cardiac PET imaging codes, and helped to create a new billing code for PET absolute quantification of myocardial blood flow.Last year, the CPT Editorial panel approved revised Category I billing codes for cardiac PET imaging, that ASNC, along with other medical societies submitted. The codes include a new one for absolute quantitation of myocardial blood flow and two codes for dual PET radiotracer imaging. These revised CPT codes become active on January 1, 2020.
Currently, Dr. Thompson serves as the Vice President of ASNC and on the Board of Directors, Executive Council, International Advisory Panel, respectively. Also, he is the AMA CPT Advisor for Cardiology.
The Burgess Gordon Memorial Award is presented annually to a CPT adviser who has made outstanding contributions to the CPT process.
