CMS's MEDCAC Has Accepted ASNC's Nomination

ASNC nominated Gregory S. Thomas, MD, MASNC, for appointment to CMS's Medicare Evidence Development & Coverage Advisory Committee (MEDCAC). ASNC highlighted Dr. Thomas' record of cardiovascular patient care, extensive research experience in the academic setting and knowledge of Medicare coverage policy and emerging reforms. The MEDCAC provides advice and guidance to CMS on coverage determinations, with the intent of providing independent guidance and expert advice on clinical topics that will supplement CMS's internal expertise. The MEDCAC reviews and evaluates medical literature, technology assessments and public testimony; and examines data and information on the benefits, harms and appropriateness of medical items and services that are covered under Medicare or that may be eligible for coverage under Medicare.
