Are You Ready for the Shift from Anatomy to Physiology? Weigh the Imaging Options with the Experts at ASNC2019

The push for better insights on which patients to revascularize is fueling a paradigm shift that will affect all imaging professionals, including nuclear cardiologists, says ASNC Board Member Vasken Dilsizian, MD, MASNC.
The field is transitioning from anatomy- to physiology-guided clinical decision-making, he explains, and, alongside that shift, will come a “transition from SPECT to PET, in the next five to 10 years.”

ASNC is providing nuclear cardiologists and their teams with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the shift. For example, at ASNC's PET Workshop Intenstives, attendees review 60+ PET cases and learn how to set up and maintain a cardiac PET program. The next workshop will be held Nov. 9-10; space is limited so register now!

Next up on ASNC's cardiac PET training roster is ASNC2019, with its comprehensive PET training track, hands-on learning lab and guided tour of Rush University's cardiac PET program. Among many must-attend sessions is Myocardial Perfusion by PET,” where experts from the U.S. and Europe will review the basics of cardiac PET and myocardial blood flow quantification, says ASNC Board Member Mouaz H. Al-Mallah, MD. “Importantly, the faculty also will examine the pluses and minuses of potential alternatives provided by other imaging modalities,” he notes, “and tackle questions such as—

  • What information does myocardial blood flow assessment add?
  • In which patients will myocardial blood flow assessment add important value?
  • How does cardiac PET compare to other imaging modalities, including CT-FFR?
  • How will cardiac PET help us decide which patients should go to the cath lab?

“The cardiac PET program at ASNC2019 will prepare you to ultimately adopt cardiac PET in your practice,” says Dr. Dilsizian. “This session will be extremely important to aid cardiologists to make the inevitable transition from anatomic to physiologic assessment.”
