Advocacy Alert: PET Reimbursement Update

You'll recall that, in the 2020 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule, CMS reversed its proposal to cut PET reimbursement by 80 percent. CMS's decision followed one of ASNC's largest grassroots efforts in our organization's history and was an important win for nuclear cardiology.

Last week, ASNC staff and I met with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in Washington, D.C., to discuss issues concerning reimbursement for cardiac PET. This meeting was part of ASNC's ongoing effort to ensure that PET imaging is fairly reimbursed and thus available to our patients.
You'll recall that, in the 2020 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule, CMS reversed its proposal to cut PET reimbursement by 80 percent. CMS's decision followed one of ASNC's largest grassroots efforts in our organization's history and was an important win for nuclear cardiology.
At that time, CMS also set a deadline of Feb. 10, 2020, for stakeholders to deliver additional information on the costs of providing cardiac PET services. At our meeting last week, ASNC delivered the information we have gathered and asked questions about additional information that could be helpful. Based on this conversation, ASNC will submit comments by the February 10th deadline. We will share those comments with you via ASNC.org and will, of course, continue monitoring this important issue.
