"This is a good year to be a healthcare worker," said Randall C. Thompson, MD, FASNC, at ASNC2020, where he delivered the Society's traditional President-elect's Address to nuclear cardiology professionals who logged on to the annual meeting from all around the globe.

Such connectivity is one of many reasons for optimism, Dr. Thompson emphasized. Others are the clinical relevance, strong science, practical use and need for nuclear cardiology services as well as the appreciation, esteem, and support that healthcare workers are receiving today. And, he said, there are tremendous opportunities for healthcare workers to use their skills and science to make a difference.
"With crises," he said, speaking of the COVID-19 pandemic, "there also are opportunities. That's the case here and now."
Dr. Thompson is a cardiologist at St. Luke's Mid America Heart Institute and a professor of medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. He is a longtime member of ASNC, having served on many committees and panels. Recent ASNC posts include chairing or co-chairing the Membership Relations and Health Policy committees.
Dr. Thompson's first President's Message soon will appear in the Journal of Nuclear Cardiology (JNC). His Message describes upcoming ASNC initiatives as well as opportunities for members to get involved. It also is a must-read for anyone looking for reasons to embrace the silver linings in COVID-19's storm-clouds.
