ASNC Singled Out for Active Participation in Choosing Wisely Campaign

For some, it may be hard to believe that until five short months ago, the Choosing Wisely campaign did not exist. When ASNC joined the ABIM Foundation and eight other specialty societies this past April, nobody involved in the project could have imagined the overwhelming response to the campaign. Since the campaign launched, 39 medical journals have mentioned the campaign and, through the relationship with Consumer Reports, over 57 million consumers have directly received information about Choosing Wisely and the first round of lists. Those of you at ASNC2012 heard Daniel Wolfson, Executive Vice President & COO of the ABIM Foundation, speak about Choosing Wisely at the plenary session.

In a recent post to ABIM Foundation's blog, The Medical Professionalism Blog, Mr. Wolfson spoke about his experience at ASNC2012. He seemed particularly impressed with how many of our members are familiar with the Choosing Wisely campaign and ASNC's recommendations. As Wolfson remarked, "in just five short months, ASNC has embraced the Choosing Wisely campaign and committed to educating their members on their recommendations." The initial goal of the Choosing Wisely campaign was to encourage doctors and patients to engage in conversations to ensure that patients understood the reasoning behind a doctor's decision to order or not order a particular test and doctors understood why their patients might have concerns. ASNC has always advocated that doctors should use the right test for the right patient, a message that the Choosing Wisely campaign supports and has taken to a wider audience. ASNC is committed to Excellence in Imaging and proud to be a member of the Choosing Wisely campaign.
