Overview
The American Society of Nuclear Cardiology Leadership Development Program (LDP) was established in 2003 to prepare ASNC members for leadership positions the field of nuclear cardiology and ASNC.Program goals include developing the skill sets necessary for program participants to become leaders in the field and the Society, providing opportunities for growth and to demonstrate knowledge, promoting participants’ sense of belonging within the ASNC Community and ensuring ASNC’s governance and leadership stability through a learned and experienced base.
The three-year program is founded on three pillars, designed to expose emerging leaders to ASNC’s culture of volunteerism, networking opportunities, and to develop skills that will serve them in ASNC and their careers.
The pillars are:
- Mentorship
- Society Governance and Special Projects
- Leadership Skills Development
- Manuscript submission/review, how to find research opportunities and didactic instruction fundamentals
- Speaking and presentation skills, needs assessment processes, formative assessment question writing, conflicts of interest policy, and the fundamentals of quality improvement
- Legislative advocacy, regulatory processes, training on meeting with members of Congress and their staff, and billing and coding issues
- How to manage clinical teams, engage in quality improvement within their institution or practice setting and use performance data to track patient outcomes
Program graduates have been instrumental in assisting ASNC to develop resources and tools for physicians in practice, including fundamentals of quality improvement, lab accreditation and assessment resources, and patient care information materials. Many have gone on to serve as Chair of a Committee or the ASNC Annual Meeting, Members of the Board of Directors, and ASNC President.
Application Requirements
- Candidate must be a member of ASNC, and
- Be within 5 years of completion of their last training program (Cardiology fellowship/ Radiology or Nuclear Medicine residency) for US applicants, or within 10 years for international applicants.
Application Submission Requirements
Selection for participation in the program is extremely competitive. Slots are limited to ensure that each participant has broad exposure to all aspects of the Society and that participation is meaningful and of value to both the individual and ASNC.
All applicants must submit the following materials to be considered for selection:
- Completed Application Form
- Letter of Recommendation from your program director, preceptor, or another mentor
- Current Curriculum Vitae or Resume
- Statement of Interest (maximum of 500 words)
Selection criteria include time committed to advanced training in nuclear cardiology or cardiac imaging, job responsibilities in nuclear cardiology/imaging, involvement in ASNC and other imaging societies and strength of the recommendation letters. The Selection Committee evaluates program applicants on their stated goals, experiences in research, their publications, educational contributions, participation in Society initiatives, and their likelihood of success in the program. ASNC’s Community is robust and assuring a good fit between LDP participants and the organization benefits both.
