IANC Research Fellowship Award

The Institute for the Advancement of Nuclear Cardiology (IANC) invites early-career nuclear cardiology investigators to apply for research funding. The IANC Research Fellowship Award was established to encourage and support careers in nuclear cardiology research while growing the science of cardiac imaging and advancing the specialty.

A major objective of Institute for the Advancement of Nuclear Cardiology (IANC) Research Award program is to help individuals initiate a career in nuclear cardiology research. The award is also intended to assist new investigators in performing research that will add important new information to the cardiac imaging literature. This award is an opportunity for the grantee to obtain important research in areas that will advance the field of nuclear cardiology.

2021 IANC Research Award Winner

Congratulations to Brittany Weber, MD, PhD the recipient of the 2021 IANC Research Award.
Research Study: "Relationship between prior SARS-CoV-2 Infection and coronary vascular health".

Krishna Patel, MD, 2018 IANC Research Award Winner, discusses her ASNC IANC-funded project, “Patient-centered Reporting in Myocardial Perfusion Imaging: Development and Pilot-testing a Framework for Incorporating Patient-centered Decision Support in MPI Reports.”

Who is Eligible?

  • Individuals who hold an MD, PhD, or equivalent degree who are either post-doctoral fellows or faculty within the first three years of their first appointment and who intend to pursue an academic career in nuclear cardiology.
  • All trainees who are ASNC members are eligible; with exception of those with prior independent investigator awards (e.g., NIH, R01). Queries regarding eligibility are encouraged as individual circumstances will be considered.
  • The applicant may not have current funding from another grant to supplement the proposed work.

Due Dates and Review Process

The deadline for application submissions is in July. The award will be announced in September at the ASNC Annual Scientific Session and Exhibition. The grant will be activated by year end. All applications will be reviewed by the Research Grants Committee on the quality and research, potential of the applicant, the quality of the mentor and training environment, and the scientific merit, originality, relevance of the work to nuclear cardiology and relevant fields.

Candidates who have applied for the IANC grant in past years may submit applications. Please include a one page supplement describing any changes or updates that have been made to your proposal following feedback from the Research Grants Committee.

Award

The IANC will fund one (1) research project for one year.

Terms

  • All applications must have appropriate institutional regulatory approvals (Human Studies Committee (HSC), Animal Studies, etc.) before funds may be released.
  • Grantees must submit a brief progress report every 6 months describing the progress toward completing their proposed aims as well as interim publications. The progress report should also include a report of costs currently accrued in working toward project aims. Grantees will be expected to report the results of their work with their mentor during an educational session at the ASNC Scientific Session. All publications should acknowledge the IANC Research Award.
  • It is expected that the grantee will use the full amount of funding awarded during the one-year term of the award. Costs must be directly related to the aims of the proposed project.
